In its continuing support to families affected by disasters, Samahang Operasyong Sagip (SOS), a disaster health organization will hold series of medical and dental missions in communities in the towns of Villareal, Basay, General McArthur and Pinabacdao in Western Samar in April to May, 2015. Dubbed as “SOS Summer Health Mission”, the medical mission activities aimed to respond to the health and medical needs of communities which were badly hit by Typhoons Ruby and Senyang in December 2014.
“SOS laments that communities which have barely recovered from the destruction of Typhoon Yolanda were again badly affected by Typhoons Ruby and Senyang continue to suffer economic hardship and poor health condition,” said Rosalinda Tablang, program manager of Samahang Operasyong Sagip.
Tablang said that more than a year after Typhoon Yolanda, the government’s relief and rehabilitation program remains inept and wanting as it has not made significant improvement in the lives of the affected population. She furthered ensuring adequate assistance and speeding up rehabilitation work to ensure food security and restore the livelihood of disaster affected families remains the government call.
The series of health missions will kick-off with the medical and dental mission in the two island barangays of Himyangan and Lamingaw in Villareal, Western Samar from April 17-20, 2015.
